SCHOOL AND FOOT WEAR
By the time children reach school age their gait and the physical appearance of their foot will have matured to resemble that of an adult. It is at this age that shoes with a firm sole for protection should be introduced. Uneven shoe wear patterns at this age can be an indication that intervention may be required. Further indicators that intervention may be required could include the child complaining of leg or foot pain or the child constantly tripping over.
Podiatrists at this stage should, in addition to the above, be in the position to commence education of patients in relation to foot hygiene, skin care and nail cutting techniques all with a view to preventing future problems.
