Gas Gangrene

 

 

Gas gangrene tends to follow the following symptomatic pattern:-

 

(a) The wound is infected;

(b) A brown-red or bloody discharge may ooze from the affected tissues;

(c) Gas produced by clostridia may produce a cracking sensation when the affected area is pressed;

(d) The affected area becomes swollen;

(e) Pain in the affected area is severe; and

(f) The affected person develops fever, increased heart rate and rapid breathing if the toxins spread into the bloodstream.
